Character Animate

The purpose of this project was to apply animation concepts and explore using Character Animate as an educational technology.

Learning Goal: At the end of this short video, kids of all ages will be able to play hopscotch.

  • Target Audience: Kids of all ages who want to play a fun game and get moving.  The audience for this video is kids of all ages, but primarily K-5 and others who want to join in. No prior knowledge is necessary.
  • General Description: Hopscotch is a simple and fun game for kids to play anywhere you can draw the hop scotch board. The activity promotes exercise, balance, coordination. Key elements in the animation will be social interaction, the creation of the hop scotch outline, jumping movements on one and two legs, and a small object (TBD). Hippity hopscotch Helen will show her friends how easy it is to play.
  • Three Animation Principles: Staging, anticipation, and follow through and overlapping action are three of the principles that will be involved. Staging will make it more interesting by showing the characters in different environments and where the game can be played. Anticipation, and pose-to-pose action will be necessary for the jumping activity to make it look more natural.
