Google Calendar is a personal productivity tool for time management and scheduling. It has task management, Google Keep for notes and clipping web content, and multiple integrations with various other software. Zoom, Cisco WebEx, Microsoft Teams, and Miro are a few apps used in educational and business settings that can be integrated with Google Calendar. Miro allows the addition of a Miro board to an event for collaboration and Zoom allows the scheduling of Zoom meetings or events within Google Calendar as a few integration examples. Multiple calendars may be synced to a single Google Calendar account and each calendar may be toggled on or off to view all or one calendar at a time.
Mainly, I use Google Calendar to keep up with assignments for school and work. All my tasks and project deadlines are synced to my Google calendar from Monday, a project management platform used by my organization. In addition, my personal UWF calendar is also synced. I give each calendar a different color. I can set reminders, manage tasks, and schedule my own Zoom or Google Meet meetings. Other options are also available within the event such as chat options for messaging attendees prior to the meeting for increased communication and ability to add attachments like Agendas or other important information.
Google Calendar is effective for scheduling synchronous meeting with online students, scheduling zoom or Google Meets for collaborating with classmates, and managing deadlines for projects and personal tasks. It has a positive future in personal, business, and education environments as long as Google remains current with the technology trends of society and stays on top of security/privacy concerns. One reason for its success is because the technology increases the boundaries for communication and collaboration across cities, states, and countries. The addition of the Google Meet and/or Zoom meeting options is relatively new. Future integrations may include integrations with virtual meeting platforms as the technology becomes more accessible to the population or maybe the addition of a language translation plugin for interpreting foreign languages.
