L Taylor Profile Image 2024

Hi! My name is Lucinda. My passion for art and technology, and the desire to help others have led me to the field of instructional design and performance technology. In the summer of 2021, I seized an opportunity to continue my education and earn a Master of Education in Instructional Design and Performance Technology at The University of West Florida. In the summer of 2023, I completed my graduate degree and earned certificates in human performance improvement, current and emerging instructional technology, and online teaching and learning. In addition to new skills gained through earning my master’s degree, I previously earned a Bachelor of Fine Art in Visual Communication from Auburn University and have extensive experience as a graphic designer.

I am excited to use my work experiences and new knowledge in collaboration with subject matter experts and organization stakeholders to meet the needs of learners and organizations.

What is Instructional Design and Performance Technology?

Instructional Design and Performance Technology is a field of study that emphasizes holistic and systematic approaches, identifies organizational or learning needs and challenges, determines root causes while keeping a solution-neutral mindset, and selects appropriate interventions in collaboration with organizational stakeholders. Through research, application of theories, and collaboration with stakeholders instructional or non-instructional interventions are selected. Instructional design and technology professionals use the information gained through the performance analysis phase to design, develop, implement, and, after a predetermined time frame, evaluate the intervention. The ultimate purpose of instructional design and performance technology is to improve performance and promote a continuous improvement environment.

Performance Improvement/HPT models help guide comprehensive analysis to identify various needs or opportunities for improvement. The processes involved identify performance gaps, root causes, and potential interventions to meet instructional or non-instructional needs. This is relevant to the analysis phase of many process models such as ADDIE and agile methodologies.

Instructional Technology

Leveraging current and emerging technologies provides engaging and interactive experiences tailored to meet specific needs. Instructional technology has the potential to (1) increase the effectiveness of online learning, (2) more effectively meet the needs of the learner, and (3) bridge the distance gap inherent to online learning by creating a social presence.

 Online Teaching
and Learning

The graduate certificate in online teaching and learning has prepared me to meet the needs of learners in education or corporate environments. Both face-to-face and online teaching require solid knowledge and understanding not only about learning and instructional theories, but also about the learner, the environment, and the technology available to help facilitate learning.

Approach to Design

My approach to instructional design is holistic and learner-centered. I enjoy working in collaborative environments and look for opportunities to utilize skills in performance improvement, instructional design, visual communication, and multimedia. Creativity, empathy, and the ability to keep a solution-neutral mindset are a few of my key attributes.
